Flower Power Puzzles (@flowerpowerpuzzle23_ on IG, www.flowpopuzzle.com) is a Los Angeles-based puzzle company run by the artist and photographer Flower Power. According to her, she combines "documentation of her travels" with her "dream world" and develops "collage art" by bridging "surrealsm art and dreams." Doors to Valhalla is that perfect combination, taking two landscapes and merging them together to create a stunning, eye-catching piece. Flower Power sent me the prototype for this picture in puzzle form. Since this is not the final form (the puzzle pieces are not what a typical purchase would look or feel like), I'll only be reviewing the Packaging, Image Quality, Assembly, Replay Value, and Satisfaction with the product.
Packaging
The puzzle pieces came in a plastic wrapping. Included in the box was a bag with the picture of the puzzle on the front of it. I discovered that the bag was the box the pieces would call home. I immediately loved this different approach to puzzle packaging. There was also a card including Flower Power’s information and a thank you.
Image Quality
The image render was good. It was easy to determine where the pieces would most likely end up. Some of the pieces were crisper in sharpness than others, but it did not take away from the overall quality of the image nor make separating the pieces difficult.
Assembly
The joy I found in this puzzle came from the surprise of the funky cuts! I started with the all-white section, in which I quickly discovered that to finish this puzzle, I would have to solve mini-puzzles within the puzzle, as it took putting some pieces together to find where other pieces needed to go. It forced me to quickly rethink my approach to solving the puzzle and solve several puzzles bit-by-bit. The white section was followed by the waterfalls, then the rocks, the trees to the left, and finally the trees to the right. The more I worked the puzzle, the more fun I had, and was disappointed slightly when I finished because I didn't want the fun of the hunt to end!
Replay Value
This puzzle definitely has replay value. Because of the artistic nature of this puzzle, I personally would have difficulty taking this one apart to do again someday. But the funky cuts left me satisfied with the mini-solves over and over again, so if I found myself in need of bursts of joy in puzzling, Doors to Valhalla could come off the shelf again.
Satisfaction
Overall, this puzzle gets a 8/10 from me. I am satisfied with the solve, and the picture leaves me breathless once I take a step back and marvel at its beauty. I cannot wait to solve another puzzle from Flower Power! This company has the potential to become a force to be reckoned with in the Puzzle Nation.
